We take into account the program you choose — whether you’re going on a language trip, a High School Year, or enrolling in a study program. In Brazil, costs vary significantly by region. Your monthly budget therefore depends on the number of weeks, the city where you stay (such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Florianópolis, or Salvador), and what is included in your accommodation.

How does our calculation work?
AtSkool uses a transparent, structured, and experience-based method to determine your monthly costs in Brazil as realistically as possible.
- First, we look at the program you are following. High School programs often include fixed components such as accommodation and meals. Language trips and study programs vary more per package — the more that is included, the lower your personal monthly expenses will be.
- Next, we analyze your destination within Brazil. Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo are large, popular cities with higher living costs, especially for transportation, dining out, and activities. Florianópolis, Curitiba, and Recife are often more affordable and offer a more budget-friendly lifestyle.
- We then consider the duration of your stay. A short stay has different spending patterns compared to a full academic year. The longer you remain in Brazil, the more accurately we can estimate your average monthly budget.
- Your type of accommodation also plays an important role: host family, student residence, campus housing, or apartment. Host families usually provide multiple meals per day, while independent housing options generally lead to higher daily expenses.
- In addition, we include up-to-date local prices for groceries, transportation (such as metro, bus, or Uber), sports, beach activities, excursions, school materials, and personal expenses. Brazil is known for being affordable, but tourist areas can be more expensive.
- Finally, we base our estimates on the experiences of previous AtSkool students in Brazil. Their actual monthly expenses provide an honest and concrete picture of what students typically spend per city and per type of program.
