We take into account the program you choose — whether you’re going on a language trip, a High School Year, or enrolling in a study program. In France, costs vary considerably by region. Your monthly budget therefore depends on the number of weeks, the city where you stay (such as Paris, Lyon, Nice, Toulouse, or Bordeaux), and what is included in your accommodation.

How does our calculation work?
AtSkool uses a transparent, accurate, and experience-based method to calculate your monthly costs in France as realistically as possible.
- First, we determine which program you are following. A High School Year often includes many fixed components such as accommodation, meals, and supervision. With language trips and study programs, these elements vary per package. The more that is included, the lower your personal monthly expenses will be.
- Next, we analyze your destination within France. Paris has the highest price level, both for transportation and for food and activities. Cities such as Lyon, Toulouse, Montpellier, and Marseille are often more affordable, while smaller towns and villages usually have even lower costs.
- We then consider the duration of your stay. A short language course has different spending patterns compared to a full academic year. The longer you stay, the more accurately we can estimate your monthly budget.
- Your type of accommodation also plays a major role: host family, student residence, campus housing, or shared apartment. Some accommodations include full meal plans, others only breakfast or no meals at all — which makes a significant difference in daily expenses.
- In addition, we include current local prices for groceries, public transportation (France has strong bus and metro networks), clothing, dining out, school materials, and activities. France offers both budget-friendly options and more luxurious possibilities, depending on your lifestyle and location.
- Finally, we use the experiences of previous AtSkool students who have lived in France. Their actual monthly expenses help us provide a realistic and reliable picture of what students truly spend per city.
