We take into account the program you choose — whether you’re going on a language trip, a High School Year, or enrolling in a study program. In Finland, costs vary slightly by region but are generally higher than in many other European countries. Your monthly budget therefore depends on the number of weeks, the city where you stay (such as Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, or Oulu), and what is included in your accommodation.

How does our calculation work?
AtSkool uses a transparent, accurate, and experience-based method to determine your monthly costs in Finland as realistically as possible.
- First, we look at the program you are following. A High School Year often includes many fixed components such as accommodation and meals. With language trips and study programs, inclusions vary per package — the more that is included, the lower your personal monthly expenses will be.
- Next, we analyze your destination within Finland. Helsinki is the most expensive city due to demand, facilities, and urban lifestyle. Cities such as Tampere, Turku, and Oulu are generally more affordable.
- We then consider the duration of your stay. A short stay involves different spending patterns compared to a full academic year. The longer you stay, the more accurately we can estimate your average monthly budget.
- Your type of accommodation also plays an important role: host family, student residence, campus housing, or shared apartment. Host families often provide (almost) all meals, while other options offer more independence — and therefore typically higher daily expenses.
- In addition, we include current local prices for groceries, transportation (Finland is known for safe and reliable public transport), sports, leisure activities, clothing (note: winters may require extra spending on warm clothing), and personal purchases.
- Finally, we use the experiences of previous AtSkool students in Finland. Their actual monthly expenses provide an honest and realistic picture of what students truly spend per city and per program.
