We take into account the program you choose — whether you’re going on a language trip, a High School Year, or enrolling in a study program. In Denmark, costs are often higher than the European average and vary by region. Your monthly budget therefore depends on the number of weeks, the city where you stay (such as Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, or Aalborg), and what is included in your accommodation.

How does our calculation work?
AtSkool uses a transparent, up-to-date, and experience-based method to determine your monthly costs in Denmark as realistically as possible.
- First, we look at the program you are following. A High School Year often includes more fixed components, such as accommodation and meals. With language trips and study programs, this varies per package. The more that is included, the lower your personal expenses will be.
- Next, we analyze your destination within Denmark. Copenhagen is the most expensive city, particularly in terms of rent, transportation, and dining. Aarhus and Odense are often more affordable, while smaller regions generally offer a more budget-friendly price level.
- We then consider the duration of your stay. A short program has a different spending pattern compared to a full academic year. The longer you stay, the more accurately we can estimate your average monthly budget.
- Your type of accommodation also plays an important role: host family, on-campus housing, student residence, or shared apartment. Some options include (almost) all meals, while others are fully independent — which significantly affects your fixed monthly costs.
- In addition, we include up-to-date local prices for groceries, public transportation (Denmark is known for efficient but relatively expensive transport), sports, leisure activities, school materials, clothing, and personal expenses.
- Finally, we base our estimates on real experiences from previous AtSkool students who have lived in Denmark. Their monthly expenses provide a reliable foundation for a realistic and honest cost estimate per city and program.
