We take into account the program you choose — whether you’re going on a language trip, a High School Year, or enrolling in a study program. In Belgium, costs are comparable to the Netherlands, but they vary by region. Your monthly budget therefore depends on the number of weeks, the city where you stay (such as Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, or Leuven), and what is included in your accommodation.

How does our calculation work?
AtSkool uses a transparent, accurate, and practical method to determine your monthly costs in Belgium as realistically as possible.
- First, we look at the program you are following. High School programs often include many fixed components — such as meals, accommodation, and supervision. With language trips and study programs, this varies per package. The more that is included, the lower your personal monthly expenses will be.
- Next, we analyze your destination within Belgium. Brussels is generally the most expensive city, particularly in terms of rent, transportation, and activities. Antwerp and Ghent tend to offer a more moderate price level, while Leuven — as a true student city — is often affordable, depending on your neighborhood and lifestyle.
- We then consider the duration of your stay. A short language course has different cost patterns compared to a full academic year. The longer you stay, the more precisely we can estimate your monthly budget.
- Your type of accommodation also plays a role: host family, student residence, campus housing, or shared apartment. Host families often provide (almost) all meals, while apartments offer more independence — and therefore typically higher daily expenses.
- In addition, we include up-to-date local prices for groceries, public transport (such as train and tram networks), sports, leisure activities, cafés, school materials, and personal expenses. Belgium offers many affordable options, although prices can vary slightly between Flanders, Brussels, and Wallonia.
- Finally, we base our cost estimates on the real experiences of previous AtSkool students in Belgium. Their actual monthly expenses provide a realistic picture of what students typically spend per region and per type of program.
