We take into account the program you choose — whether you’re going on a language trip, a High School Year, or enrolling in a study program. In Australia, costs vary significantly by region. Your monthly budget therefore depends on the number of weeks, the city where you stay (such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, or Adelaide), and what is included in your accommodation.

How does our calculation work?
AtSkool uses a transparent, up-to-date, and experience-based method to determine your monthly costs in Australia as realistically as possible.
- First, we look at the program you are following. High School programs often include fixed components such as accommodation, meals, and supervision. With language trips and study programs, this varies per package — the more that is included, the lower your personal monthly expenses will be.
- Next, we analyze your destination within Australia. Sydney is generally the most expensive city, followed by Melbourne. Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth often offer a more affordable price level. The specific neighborhood where you stay can also impact your overall costs.
- We then take the duration of your stay into account. A short stay (e.g., 2–4 weeks) has different spending patterns compared to a full semester or academic year. The longer you stay, the more accurately we can estimate your average monthly budget.
- Your type of accommodation also makes a significant difference: host family, student residence, on-campus housing, or apartment. Host families often include multiple meals per day, while apartments provide more independence — and therefore usually higher daily living expenses.
- In addition, we include current local prices for groceries, public transport (train, tram, ferry), sports, leisure activities, beach outings, school materials, and personal expenses. Australia is known for its high quality of life, but also for slightly higher prices in major cities.
- Finally, we base our estimates on real experiences from previous AtSkool students in Australia. Their monthly expenses provide a reliable and concrete picture of what students typically spend per city and per type of stay.
